VintagetoVogue

Vintage to Vogue is a sartorial outlet of the very highest quality. With a shop in the heart of Bath and an extensive online store.

Happy New Year to you all

We have just got back from creating our new window display. It’s always a challenge to create an interesting, but fun, window in such a small space. This one is a vintage tweed fishing explosion!

With such unpredictable weather, it’s been exciting making sure we have the right type of clothing in the shop to meet both the extreme cold weather as well as a lighter range for those milder days. With snowdrops now in flower we are already turning our thoughts to gathering together our early spring collection of quality vintage items. So to celebrate another successful year of trading and to create space for our spring collection we have decided to offer our customers the opportunity to discover some genuine bargains. During the next four weeks only, we will be marking a number of items on the rails with a red cross on the price ticket, which means fifty per cent off the original price. See below a 1950’s Ball gown as an example. There will be no “sale rail” or massive posters in the window, as we want our regular Vintage to Vogue customers to benefit from these genuine half price bargains.

Alongside these bargains we have our usual selection of quality labels including Alexandra McQueen, Ugg, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, and Stella McCartney to name but a few. We also have examples of vintage Chanel, Mary Quant, and Hermes.

In our courtyard shed, we have our usual eclectic mix of vintage homeware including a vintage Ipad (disguised as a typewriter), a Victorian eel trap, bone china tea services, a Bertie Basset money box, a selection of vintage games and toys, a very useful carpet beater, and even a genuine passport for those of you that might need to make a discreet departure. The shed is a real must for those hard to find gifts and an ideal place to hide from the seagulls.

It is now officially the run up to Christmas! The Christmas lights have been turned on and the nights are drawing in. Vintage to Vogue has got into the festive spirit by turning the shed into a Santa’s grotto by preparing you for all things Christmas!

We have an amazing selection of vintage gifts to suit all ages and interests, from little vanity cases to dresser top trinkets. If you fancy giving a unique gift at Christmas then we have a great selection of  authentic vintage homeware that would make a great gift at Christmas time.

Top Trends: Christmas Parties

Velvet:
Follow Stella McCartney’s lead with a classic, sumptuous Velvet dress, if you would like to make a real style statement then opt for bold style shoulders to create a statement silhouette that will stand out from the crowd.

Sequins:

Sequins should be treated with care as there is a risk of looking like a Christmas bauble, but when worn correctly they can add some real glam to your outfit. A sequin dress can be the height of sophistication, however if you’re not feeling brave enough to wear a whole outfit then sequin accessories can add a touch of sparkle to a simple outfit.

Maxi vs. Mini

Maxi dresses can add a real elegance to your outfit by elongating your figure but be careful if you consider yourself to be short as it can have the opposite effect. Mini dresses look great, especially if you’re being brave with your outfit choice and choosing something that it is quite high fashion.

Belle Sauvage

Although the High Street does offer a great range of party dresses, if you fancy something different, perhaps an original vintage dress or vintage accessories then pop into Vintage to Vogue of visit our website. We have a great range of unique dresses and accessories to accompany you at your parties.

60s style

60s Style

This season sees a 60s twist as a 1960s micro-trend emerges. All the designers exhibited a slight 60s twist to their collections, perhaps inspired by the hit American show, Mad Men.

Pinafores, shift dresses, bracelet sleeves and polo necks have all made an appearance this season, making it a very sophisticated affair.

To be bang on trend team leather mini skirts with cute cardigans with over sized buttons. Big bee hive hair with fitted dresses are very big but keep the colour palette monochrome, tan and burnt orange.

Bright opaque tights and very tidy hair are key accessories.

We always have a great selection of knitwear and dresses so pop by Vintage to Vogue to get your 60s inspired pieces.

Stop the fur-eeze this winter!

Fur Catwalk

The big trend this A/W is fur, whatever type, long, short, thick, fine, real or faux. It was all over the catwalk and it is massive this season. Before you start thinking Cruella de Ville, you don’t have to be decked from head to foot in fur to follow the trend.

Fur Accessories:

There were a lot of fur accessories on the catwalk in particular the fur collar. These are an economical and stylish way to add a touch of fur to an already existing jacket or coat in your wardrobe. I have seen a number of people sporting a fur collar with a faded, retro denim jacket, perhaps not a look you would immediately associate with fur but it really works, especially if you team with a coloured collar.

Coloured fur:

This season has debuted the coloured fur collar. This is when the fur has been dyed unnatural colours such as, bright blue, orange or purple. Although natural fur is still prominent the coloured fur can be a real statement piece when teamed with the right garment.

Fur for Men:

For most men a fur coat would be a no no, but there are ways to accessorise with fur that works really well. A touch of fur on the collar or lapel of a coat adds a touch of sophistication. Also aim for fur that looks a bit worn and bedraggled to achieve that old, retro look.

Vintage to Vogue has a huge range of furs in various styles to suit, please pop in and/or arrange an apopintment with Imren, our vintage stylist, to get your fine furs for the winter.

Menswear

The colours for men’s tailoring this season are grey and red, according to new online men’s store Park and Bond.
For those of you who feel like jazzing up your drab winter wardrobe, go and get yourself a bright jacket, there is no excuse now!

If this morning’s chill is anything to go by then winter is definitely on it’s way! With this in mind I think it’s time we all started thinking about our winter wardrobe… yes it’s that time of year again.

A big trend for both men and women this season is retro knits, the more Christmassy the better, think of the jumpers that granny used to knit and you’re bang on trend. Vintage to Vogue has new winter stock in and enough knitwear to make any granny envious! Pop in and get yourself a retro jumper and stay warm all winter.

LFW- Spring/ Summer 2012 Trends

London Fashion Week, where everyone who’s anyone is seen. It is as much about what’s on the runway as off of it, after parties, who’s talking to whom and the latest season’s must haves.

So what were the trends to look out for? Vintage to Vogue summarises the main trends seen on the catwalk for spring/summer 2012.

Ornate floral and paisley prints adorned the legs of Erdem, whilst Vivienne Westwood went for lightly checked numbers.

Erdem

Pastel Clours, clash them, contrast them, what ever you do wear them! They were massive this LFW! Neon… so last year.

Prada mens

Full skirts, think puffball, slouchy, sloppy or anything with body.

Jonathan Saunders

For a back to school look, think buttoned up shirts and pleated skirts. They were in this spring/summer and they look to continue to next year…

Mulberry

Yellow was a big colour at LFW from most designers, get a splash of yellow in your wardrobe in time for summmer!

The day will end at the Royal Crescent Hotel where there will be a drinks reception and food prepared by Mr Anderson with produce he purchases throughout the day for the TwitTrip participants.

Vintage to Vogue would love to get involved, we do a fabulous selection of high-end, vintage clothing for both men and women and Imren, our vintage style guru, is often on hand to offer styling tips and advice.
